1. 그 일 후에 하나님이 아브라함을 시험하시려고 그를 부르시되 아브라함아 하시니 그가 이르되 내가 여기 있나이다

  Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.

2. 여호와께서 이르시되 네 아들 네 사랑하는 독자 이삭을 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가서 내가 네게 일러 준 한 산 거기서 그를 번제로 드리라

  Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

3. 아브라함이 아침에 일찍이 일어나 나귀에 안장을 지우고 두 종과 그의 아들 이삭을 데리고 번제에 쓸 나무를 쪼개어 가지고 떠나 하나님이 자기에게 일러 주신 곳으로 가더니

  Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

4. 제삼일에 아브라함이 눈을 들어 그 곳을 멀리 바라본지라

  On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

5. 이에 아브라함이 종들에게 이르되 너희는 나귀와 함께 여기서 기다리라 내가 아이와 함께 저기 가서 예배하고 우리가 너희에게로 돌아오리라 하고

  He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you."

6. 아브라함이 이에 번제 나무를 가져다가 그의 아들 이삭에게 지우고 자기는 불과 칼을 손에 들고 두 사람이 동행하더니

  Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together,

7. 이삭이 그 아버지 아브라함에게 말하여 이르되 내 아버지여 하니 그가 이르되 내 아들아 내가 여기 있노라 이삭이 이르되 불과 나무는 있거니와 번제할 어린 양은 어디 있나이까

  Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"

8. 아브라함이 이르되 내 아들아 번제할 어린 양은 하나님이 자기를 위하여 친히 준비하시리라 하고 두 사람이 함께 나아가서

  Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together.

9. 하나님이 그에게 일러 주신 곳에 이른지라 이에 아브라함이 그 곳에 제단을 쌓고 나무를 벌여 놓고 그의 아들 이삭을 결박하여 제단 나무 위에 놓고

  When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.

10. 손을 내밀어 칼을 잡고 그 아들을 잡으려 하니

  Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11. 여호와의 사자가 하늘에서부터 그를 불러 이르시되 아브라함아 아브라함아 하시는지라 아브라함이 이르되 내가 여기 있나이다 하매

  But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.

12. 사자가 이르시되 그 아이에게 네 손을 대지 말라 그에게 아무 일도 하지 말라 네가 네 아들 네 독자까지도 내게 아끼지 아니하였으니 내가 이제야 네가 하나님을 경외하는 줄을 아노라

  "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."

13. 아브라함이 눈을 들어 살펴본즉 한 숫양이 뒤에 있는데 뿔이 수풀에 걸려 있는지라 아브라함이 가서 그 숫양을 가져다가 아들을 대신하여 번제로 드렸더라

  Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

14. 아브라함이 그 땅 이름을 여호와 이레라 하였으므로 오늘날까지 사람들이 이르기를 여호와의 산에서 준비되리라 하더라

  So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided." 

24. 제자가 그 선생보다, 또는 종이 그 상전보다 높지 못하나니

  "A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

25. 제자가 그 선생 같고 종이 그 상전 같으면 족하도다 집 주인을 바알세불이라 하였거든 하물며 그 집 사람들이랴

  It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household!

26. 그런즉 그들을 두려워하지 말라 감추인 것이 드러나지 않을 것이 없고 숨은 것이 알려지지 않을 것이 없느니라

  "So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.

27. 내가 너희에게 어두운 데서 이르는 것을 광명한 데서 말하며 너희가 귓속말로 듣는 것을 집 위에서 전파하라

  What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.

28. 몸은 죽여도 영혼은 능히 죽이지 못하는 자들을 두려워하지 말고 오직 몸과 영혼을 능히 지옥에 멸하실 수 있는 이를 두려워하라

  Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

29. 참새 두 마리가 한 앗사리온에 팔리지 않느냐 그러나 너희 아버지께서 허락하지 아니하시면 그 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라

  Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.

30. 너희에게는 머리털까지 다 세신 바 되었나니

 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31. 두려워하지 말라 너희는 많은 참새보다 귀하니라

  So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

32. 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 시인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 시인할 것이요

  "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

33. 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 부인하면 나도 하늘에 계신 내 아버지 앞에서 그를 부인하리라

  But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

34. 내가 세상에 화평을 주러 온 줄로 생각하지 말라 화평이 아니요 검을 주러 왔노라

  "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35. 내가 온 것은 사람이 그 아버지와, 딸이 어머니와, 며느리가 시어머니와 불화하게 하려 함이니

  For I have come to turn "'a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--

36. 사람의 원수가 자기 집안 식구리라

  a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.'

37. 아버지나 어머니를 나보다 더 사랑하는 자는 내게 합당하지 아니하고 아들이나 딸을 나보다 더 사랑하는 자도 내게 합당하지 아니하며

  "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

38. 또 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따르지 않는 자도 내게 합당하지 아니하니라

  and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

39. 자기 목숨을 얻는 자는 잃을 것이요 나를 위하여 자기 목숨을 잃는 자는 얻으리라

  Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 

26. 또 이르시되 하나님의 나라는 사람이 씨를 땅에 뿌림과 같으니

  He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground.

27. 그가 밤낮 자고 깨고 하는 중에 씨가 나서 자라되 어떻게 그리 되는지를 알지 못하느니라

  Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

28. 땅이 스스로 열매를 맺되 처음에는 싹이요 다음에는 이삭이요 그 다음에는 이삭에 충실한 곡식이라

  All by itself the soil produces grain--first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.

29. 열매가 익으면 곧 낫을 대나니 이는 추수 때가 이르렀음이라

  As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

30. 또 이르시되 우리가 하나님의 나라를 어떻게 비교하며 또 무슨 비유로 나타낼까

  Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it?

31. 겨자씨 한 알과 같으니 땅에 심길 때에는 땅 위의 모든 씨보다 작은 것이로되

  It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground.

32. 심긴 후에는 자라서 모든 풀보다 커지며 큰 가지를 내나니 공중의 새들이 그 그늘에 깃들일 만큼 되느니라

  Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade."

33. 예수께서 이러한 많은 비유로 그들이 알아 들을 수 있는 대로 말씀을 가르치시되

  With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.

34. 비유가 아니면 말씀하지 아니하시고 다만 혼자 계실 때에 그 제자들에게 모든 것을 해석하시더라

  He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything. 

9. 예수께서 그 곳을 떠나 지나가시다가 마태라 하는 사람이 세관에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 이르시되 나를 따르라 하시니 일어나 따르니라

 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

10. 예수께서 마태의 집에서 앉아 음식을 잡수실 때에 많은 세리와 죄인들이 와서 예수와 그의 제자들과 함께 앉았더니

 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples.

11. 바리새인들이 보고 그의 제자들에게 이르되 어찌하여 너희 선생은 세리와 죄인들과 함께 잡수시느냐

 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"

12. 예수께서 들으시고 이르시되 건강한 자에게는 의사가 쓸 데 없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸 데 있느니라

 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

13. 너희는 가서 내가 긍휼을 원하고 제사를 원하지 아니하노라 하신 뜻이 무엇인지 배우라 나는 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니요 죄인을 부르러 왔노라 하시니라

 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

18. 예수께서 이 말씀을 하실 때에 한 관리가 와서 절하며 이르되 내 딸이 방금 죽었사오나 오셔서 그 몸에 손을 얹어 주소서 그러면 살아나겠나이다 하니

 While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, "My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live."

19. 예수께서 일어나 따라가시매 제자들도 가더니

 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.

20. 열두 해 동안이나 혈루증으로 앓는 여자가 예수의 뒤로 와서 그 겉옷 가를 만지니

 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.

21. 이는 제 마음에 그 겉옷만 만져도 구원을 받겠다 함이라

 She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."

22. 예수께서 돌이켜 그를 보시며 이르시되 딸아 안심하라 네 믿음이 너를 구원하였다 하시니 여자가 그 즉시 구원을 받으니라

 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.

23. 예수께서 그 관리의 집에 가사 피리 부는 자들과 떠드는 무리를 보시고

 When Jesus entered the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd,

24. 이르시되 물러가라 이 소녀가 죽은 것이 아니라 잔다 하시니 그들이 비웃더라

 he said, "Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep." But they laughed at him.

25. 무리를 내보낸 후에 예수께서 들어가사 소녀의 손을 잡으시매 일어나는지라

 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.

26. 그 소문이 그 온 땅에 퍼지더라

 News of this spread through all that region. 

16. 열한 제자가 갈릴리에 가서 예수께서 지시하신 산에 이르러

  Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

17. 예수를 뵈옵고 경배하나 아직도 의심하는 사람들이 있더라

  When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

18. 예수께서 나아와 말씀하여 이르시되 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니

  Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19. 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 민족을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고

  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20. 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라

  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." 

1 오순절 날이 이미 이르매 그들이 다같이 한 곳에 모였더니

2 홀연히 하늘로부터 급하고 강한 바람 같은 소리가 있어 그들이 앉은 온 집에 가득하며

3 마치 불의 혀처럼 갈라지는 것들이 그들에게 보여 각 사람 위에 하나씩 임하여 있더니

4 그들이 다 성령의 충만함을 받고 성령이 말하게 하심을 따라 다른 언어들로 말하기를 시작하니라

5 그 때에 경건한 유대인들이 천하 각국으로부터 와서 예루살렘에 머물러 있더니

6 이 소리가 나매 큰 무리가 모여 각각 자기의 방언으로 제자들이 말하는 것을 듣고 소동하여

7 다 놀라 신기하게 여겨 이르되 보라 이 말하는 사람들이 다 갈릴리 사람이 아니냐

8 우리가 우리 각 사람이 난 곳 방언으로 듣게 되는 것이 어찌 됨이냐

9우리는 바대인과 메대인과 엘람인과 또 메소보다미아, 유대와 갑바도기아, 본도와 아시아,

10 브루기아와 밤빌리아, 애굽과 및 구레네에 가까운 리비야 여러 지방에 사는 사람들과 로마로부터 온 나그네 곧 유대인과 유대교에 들어온 사람들과

11 그레데인과 아라비아인들이라 우리가 다 우리의 각 언어로 하나님의 큰 일을 말함을 듣는도다 하고

12 다 놀라며 당황하여 서로 이르되 이 어찌 된 일이냐 하며

13 또 어떤 이들은 조롱하여 이르되 그들이 새 술에 취하였다 하더라

  베드로의 오순절 설교

14 베드로가 열한 사도와 함께 서서 소리를 높여 이르되 유대인들과 예루살렘에 사는 모든 사람들아 이 일을 너희로 알게 할 것이니 내 말에 귀를 기울이라

15 때가 제 삼 시니 너희 생각과 같이 이 사람들이 취한 것이 아니라

16 이는 곧 선지자 요엘을 통하여 말씀하신 것이니 일렀으되

17하나님이 말씀하시기를 말세에 내가 내 영을 모든 육체에 부어 주리니 너희의 자녀들은 예언할 것이요 너희의 젊은이들은 환상을 보고 너희의 늙은이들은 꿈을 꾸리라

18 그 때에 내가 내 영을 내 남종과 여종들에게 부어 주리니 그들이 예언할 것이요

19또 내가 위로 하늘에서는 기사를 아래로 땅에서는 징조를 베풀리니 곧 피와 불과 연기로다

20 주의 크고 영화로운 날이 이르기 전에 해가 변하여 어두워지고 달이 변하여 피가 되리라

21 누구든지 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 구원을 받으리라 하였느니라 

1. 데오빌로여 내가 먼저 쓴 글에는 무릇 예수께서 행하시며 가르치시기를 시작하심부터

  In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach

2. 그가 택하신 사도들에게 성령으로 명하시고 승천하신 날까지의 일을 기록하였노라

  until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

3. 그가 고난 받으신 후에 또한 그들에게 확실한 많은 증거로 친히 살아 계심을 나타내사 사십 일 동안 그들에게 보이시며 하나님 나라의 일을 말씀하시니라

  After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

4. 사도와 함께 모이사 그들에게 분부하여 이르시되 예루살렘을 떠나지 말고 내게서 들은 바 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 기다리라

  On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

5. 요한은 물로 세례를 베풀었으나 너희는 몇 날이 못되어 성령으로 세례를 받으리라 하셨느니라

  For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

6. 그들이 모였을 때에 예수께 여쭈어 이르되 주께서 이스라엘 나라를 회복하심이 이 때니이까 하니

  So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"

7. 이르시되 때와 시기는 아버지께서 자기의 권한에 두셨으니 너희가 알 바 아니요

He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

  8. 오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 하시니라

  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

9. 이 말씀을 마치시고 그들이 보는데 올려져 가시니 구름이 그를 가리어 보이지 않게 하더라

  After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10. 올라가실 때에 제자들이 자세히 하늘을 쳐다보고 있는데 흰 옷 입은 두 사람이 그들 곁에 서서

   They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.

11. 이르되 갈릴리 사람들아 어찌하여 서서 하늘을 쳐다보느냐 너희 가운데서 하늘로 올려지신 이 예수는 하늘로 가심을 본 그대로 오시리라 하였느니라

  "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

12. 제자들이 감람원이라 하는 산으로부터 예루살렘에 돌아오니 이 산은 예루살렘에서 가까워 안식일에 가기 알맞은 길이라

  Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city.

13. 들어가 그들이 유하는 다락방으로 올라가니 베드로, 요한, 야고보, 안드레와 빌립, 도마와 바돌로매, 마태와 및 알패오의 아들 야고보, 셀롯인 시몬, 야고보의 아들 유다가 다 거기 있어

  When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.

14. 여자들과 예수의 어머니 마리아와 예수의 아우들과 더불어 마음을 같이하여 오로지 기도에 힘쓰더라

  They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. 

31. 그가 나간 후에 예수께서 이르시되 지금 인자가 영광을 받았고 하나님도 인자로 말미암아 영광을 받으셨도다

      When he was gone, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him.

32. 만일 하나님이 그로 말미암아 영광을 받으셨으면 하나님도 자기로 말미암아 그에게 영광을 주시리니 곧 주시리라

      If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.

33. 작은 자들아 내가 아직 잠시 너희와 함께 있겠노라 너희가 나를 찾을 것이나 일찍이 내가 유대인들에게 너희는 내가 가는 곳에 올 수 없다고 말한 것과 같이 지금 너희에게도 이르노라

     "My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.

34. 새 계명을 너희에게 주노니 서로 사랑하라 내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라

      "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

35. 너희가 서로 사랑하면 이로써 모든 사람이 너희가 내 제자인 줄 알리라

      By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." 

54. 그들이 이 말을 듣고 마음에 찔려 그를 향하여 이를 갈거늘

 When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.

55. 스데반이 성령 충만하여 하늘을 우러러 주목하여 하나님의 영광과 및 예수께서 하나님 우편에 서신 것을 보고

 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

56. 말하되 보라 하늘이 열리고 인자가 하나님 우편에 서신 것을 보노라 한대

 "Look," he said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."

57. 그들이 큰 소리를 지르며 귀를 막고 일제히 그에게 달려들어

 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,

58. 성 밖으로 내치고 돌로 칠새 증인들이 옷을 벗어 사울이라 하는 청년의 발 앞에 두니라

 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59. 그들이 돌로 스데반을 치니 스데반이 부르짖어 이르되 주 예수여 내 영혼을 받으시옵소서 하고

 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

60. 무릎을 꿇고 크게 불러 이르되 주여 이 죄를 그들에게 돌리지 마옵소서 이 말을 하고 자니라

 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep. 

14. 그 때에 열둘 중의 하나인 가룟 유다라 하는 자가 대제사장들에게 가서 말하되

 Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests

15. 내가 예수를 너희에게 넘겨 주리니 얼마나 주려느냐 하니 그들이 은 삼십을 달아 주거늘

[NIV] and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.

16. 그가 그 때부터 예수를 넘겨 줄 기회를 찾더라

 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

17. 무교절의 첫날에 제자들이 예수께 나아와서 이르되 유월절 음식 잡수실 것을 우리가 어디서 준비하기를 원하시나이까

 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?"

18. 이르시되 성안 아무에게 가서 이르되 선생님 말씀이 내 때가 가까이 왔으니 내 제자들과 함께 유월절을 네 집에서 지키겠다 하시더라 하라 하시니

 He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.'"

19. 제자들이 예수께서 시키신 대로 하여 유월절을 준비하였더라

 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

20. 저물 때에 예수께서 열두 제자와 함께 앉으셨더니

 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve.

21. 그들이 먹을 때에 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희 중의 한 사람이 나를 팔리라 하시니

 And while they were eating, he said, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me."

22. 그들이 몹시 근심하여 각각 여짜오되 주여 나는 아니지요

 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, "Surely not I, Lord?"

23. 대답하여 이르시되 나와 함께 그릇에 손을 넣는 그가 나를 팔리라

 Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.

24. 인자는 자기에 대하여 기록된 대로 가거니와 인자를 파는 그 사람에게는 화가 있으리로다 그 사람은 차라리 태어나지 아니하였더라면 제게 좋을 뻔하였느니라

 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."

25. 예수를 파는 유다가 대답하여 이르되 랍비여 나는 아니지요 대답하시되 네가 말하였도다 하시니라

 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely not I, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "Yes, it is you." 

1. 어떤 병자가 있으니 이는 마리아와 그 자매 마르다의 마을 베다니에 사는 나사로라

  Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

2. 이 마리아는 향유를 주께 붓고 머리털로 주의 발을 닦던 자요 병든 나사로는 그의 오라버니더라

This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.

3. 이에 그 누이들이 예수께 사람을 보내어 이르되 주여 보시옵소서 사랑하시는 자가 병들었나이다 하니

So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."

4. 예수께서 들으시고 이르시되 이 병은 죽을 병이 아니라 하나님의 영광을 위함이요 하나님의 아들이 이로 말미암아 영광을 받게 하려 함이라 하시더라

 When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."

5. 예수께서 본래 마르다와 그 동생과 나사로를 사랑하시더니

Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

6. 나사로가 병들었다 함을 들으시고 그 계시던 곳에 이틀을 더 유하시고

Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

7. 그 후에 제자들에게 이르시되 유대로 다시 가자 하시니

Then he said to his disciples, "Let us go back to Judea."

8. 제자들이 말하되 랍비여 방금도 유대인들이 돌로 치려 하였는데 또 그리로 가시려 하나이까

"But Rabbi," they said, "a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you are going back there?"

9. 예수께서 대답하시되 낮이 열두 시간이 아니냐 사람이 낮에 다니면 이 세상의 빛을 보므로 실족하지 아니하고

Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light.

10. 밤에 다니면 빛이 그 사람 안에 없는 고로 실족하느니라

It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light."

11. 이 말씀을 하신 후에 또 이르시되 우리 친구 나사로가 잠들었도다 그러나 내가 깨우러 가노라

After he had said this, he went on to tell them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up."

12. 제자들이 이르되 주여 잠들었으면 낫겠나이다 하더라

His disciples replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better."

13. 예수는 그의 죽음을 가리켜 말씀하신 것이나 그들은 잠들어 쉬는 것을 가리켜 말씀하심인 줄 생각하는지라

Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

14. 이에 예수께서 밝히 이르시되 나사로가 죽었느니라

So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead,

15. 내가 거기 있지 아니한 것을 너희를 위하여 기뻐하노니 이는 너희로 믿게 하려 함이라 그러나 그에게로 가자 하시니

and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."

16. 디두모라고도 하는 도마가 다른 제자들에게 말하되 우리도 주와 함께 죽으러 가자 하니라

Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."
